The Strathmore Speakers Series and Onondaga Free Library‘s February 2022 event featured Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Herbalist, Lauren Eadline. Holistic health and modern medicine are often placed in opposition. Their relationship is frequently characterized by mutual mistrust and outright hostility. And practitioners on both sides frequently exhibit an obstinate reluctance to find areas of agreement or entertain serious collaboration. However, if health is viewed from a truly holistic standpoint, one where the patient remains at the middle of the equation, then the only conclusion that makes sense is that these two seemingly conflicted worlds must work together to offer patients the best possible solutions and the most comprehensive path to overall wellness. In this thought-provoking discussion, Lauren explored the definition of integrative medicine (and what it is not), how small changes in our approaches to healthcare can realign practice with true human needs, and explore ways of integrating holistic methods of wellness into our daily lives.

About Lauren Eadline
Lauren Eadline is a board certified Nurse Practitioner and a practicing clinical herbalist. She maintains a practice in primary care, serving the Syracuse, NY area as a proud member of SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Internal Medicine group. She is a professional member of the American Herbalist Guild, the only national body that provides national registration for qualified herbalists in the United States, giving her the Registered Herbalist designation. She is the founder of the EarthStrong Center for Integrative Herbalism, which focuses both on client care and community education. She is also the organizer and lead instructor of the Syracuse Herbal Study Group, a collection of local folks dedicated to affordable and accessible learning, discussion and action on topics in plant medicine with the goal of empowering community health by way of building knowledge and skill.
