The Strathmore Speaker Series September 2019 event featured Dr. Ezra Wegbreit, who examined “aha!” moments, the moments we all get from time to time—those sudden bursts of insight that allow us to break through a stubborn problem we’ve been stuck on. This event was held on Sunday, September 29th at at the Onondaga Park Firebarn.

About this event

From the time of the Greek scientist Archimedes and his eureka moment, humanity has been fascinated by these solutions that seem to come from nowhere. Insightful solutions to difficult problems have a long and interesting history, with many other great minds experiencing them, including physicist Albert Einstein, mathematician Henri Poincaré, and chemist August Kekulé. A small, but growing, scientific literature has examined the psychology of insights, including work by Dr. Wegbreit. He will discuss the history, mythology, and psychology of insightful problem solving, with the audience having a chance to potentially solve some problems with insights.

About Ezra Wegbreit

Dr. Ezra Wegbreit received a B.S. in psychology and B.A. in philosophy at Virginia Tech.  He received his PhD in biological psychology at Northwestern University.  While there, he studied the links between creativity, insight, emotions, and attention.  After graduate school, he completed post-doctoral research fellowships focusing on the neuroimaging of mood disorders and ADHD at the University of Illinois Chicago, Harvard University Medical School, and Brown University Medical School.  He is currently an assistant professor in the psychology program at Cazenovia College and conducts research on creative problem solving via insights.  He lives in Skaneateles with his wife, Rebecca, who is a clinical neuropsychologist, and their three wonderful children.
